Amba / Stewart / Sawyer Trio
- Zoh Amba – tenor saxophone
- Luke Stewart – bass
- Ryan Sawyer – drums
Ars Nova Workshop presents the trio of tenor saxophonist Zoh Amba, bassist Luke Stewart, and drummer Ryan Sawyer, in a performance at Solar Myth, Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
This program marks the first event of many at Solar Myth, Ars Nova’s new permanent home, located at the former Boot & Saddle on South Broad Street in Philadelphia.
Originally from Tennessee, saxophonist Zoh Amba has rapidly become a thriving member of New York’s creative music community. With a sound deeply informed by Albert Ayler, Frank Wright, Arthur Doyle, and their fire-breathing contemporaries, she has found common ground with innovators like William Parker, Francisco Mela, Joey Baron, John Zorn and others. For this engagement, she’ll be joined by Luke Stewart, best known for his work in Irreversible Entanglements and Blacks’ Myths; and Ryan Sawyer, a member of Gang Gang Dance and collaborator with Nate Wooley, Thurston Moore, Marshall Allen, and many more.
