Ars Nova Workshop is thrilled to present a double bill of visionary experimentalism featuring Philadelphia musician, composer, poet, activist and visual artist moor mother and the sonic-biological explorations of Lea Bertucci, at Solar Myth on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
moor mother, aka Camae Ayewa, has been called “the poet laureate of the apocalypse” by Pitchfork. On her own and as part of the explosive collective quintet Irreversible Entanglements, Ayewa has become one of the most far-reaching, incisive and bracing voices on the landscape of modern music. moor mother visits in celebration of the new album, “The Great Bailout,” an expansive meditation that acts as a non-linear word map about colonialism, slavery, and commerce.
Lea Bertucci is an experimental musician, composer and performer whose work describes relationships between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. In addition to her longstanding practice with woodwind instruments, her work incorporates spatialized speaker arrays, radical methods of free improvisation and creative misuses of audio technology. She’ll perform with bassist Henry Fraser, whose work spans jazz, long-from drone, noise, and spectral music, in a duo set of spectral, improvised music for voice, tape, woodwinds, electronics and double bass.
