Ars Nova Workshop is pleased to present Sun Ra Arkestra maestro Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons at Solar Myth on Friday, January 24. For our first Ghost Horizons performance of the new year, Marshall and company go Third Stream, featuring a special chamber ensemble performing classic Sun Ra and Marshall Allen compositions!

Still traveling the spaceways after more than 100 years on the planet, the indefatigable Maestro Marshall Allen remains a brilliant imaginative force whose life has spanned nearly the entire history of jazz. A key member of the Sun Ra Arkestra for more than six decades and its dauntless leader for the last quarter century, Allen has kept the iconic bandleader’s cosmic torch blazing brightly while forging a path through the spaceways as a singular voice on the alto saxophone and Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI). The Ghost Horizons groups he’s led at Solar Myth over the past few years have taken on many forms, but this month’s conglomeration is particularly unique: Allen and Arkestra guitar wizard DM Hotep will form the core of an improvising chamber ensemble with strings, a unique meeting between Loft and Salon traditions.
