Ars Nova Workshop partners with The Jazz Gallery to present the latest concert in the NYC cultural center’s ongoing Mentoring Series, pairing Philadelphia saxophonist Jaleel Shaw with up-and-coming pianist Cameron Campbell, at Solar Myth on Wednesday, February 12.
The Jazz Gallery is America’s premier performance venue for emerging artists who challenge convention, take creative risks and lead their field as performers, composers and thinkers. The cultural center developed its Mentorship Program to cultivate a group of senior-level jazz musicians as mentors and to provide aspiring musicians with the opportunity to learn the music and business of jazz under the guidance of their contemporary heroes. Since 2022, Ars Nova Workshop has partnered with The Jazz Gallery to help bring this vital initiative to a wider audience. Born and raised in Philadelphia, acclaimed alto & soprano saxophonist Jaleel Shaw has performed with the likes of Christian McBride, Jason Moran, the Mingus Big Band, Pat Metheny, Stefon Harris, Roy Hargrove, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Jimmy Cobb, and others. He’s taken under his wing the rising star Cameron Campbell, a pianist, composer, and producer from Worcester, Massachusetts who focuses on jazz, avant-garde, and electronic music. A student of Christian Sands, Campbell has toured the U.S., Japan, and Brazil with Samara Joy and shared the stage with Kendrick Scott, Maurice Brown and Marcus Gilmore.
