Ars Nova Workshop is proud to announce the beloved and indispensable educator Lovett Hines as the recipient of the 2024 Nova Award, to be presented at our 5th annual fundraiser at Solar Myth on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
“There simply is no worthier cause for Philly music lovers with a taste for the adventurous and daring.”
—The Key
Lovett Hines is the Artistic Director of the music education program at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, which he founded in 1985. Through nearly four decades at the Clef Club and earlier at Settlement Music School, Mr. Hines has served as a formative mentor to legions of Philadelphia musicians including Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Kamal Grey of the Roots, Jaleel Shaw, Justin Faulkner, Immanuel Wilkins, Nazir Ebo and many more. “Mr. Hines should get a monument in Philly,” McBride told the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2014. “He’s a living treasure. The musicians that have come from him over the last forty years are a royal roll call.” Ars Nova Workshop will honor the veteran educator with its coveted Nova Award during the organization’s annual fundraising event, which will feature special performances from our illustrious guests.
